Newsletter February 2009
within the Life-Link & UNESCO ASPnet Flagship project 2009-2011
Life-Link staff at the Uppsala office, and UNESCO Amman office partners, have received confirmations from most of the UNESCO National Commissions on the number of schools and students 2009 – 2010 – 2011. Great!
We already have a total figure of 46 000 students in Arab countries that will be active in the program, and we estimate that a similar figure will amount from the other countries!
Additionally we have the “multiplier effect” from teachers and parents and media and other community involvement
Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Chile, Egypt, Germany, India, Iran IR, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman Sult., Palestine Auth., Qatar, Romania, Russia, Sudan, Sweden, Yemen
We also have requests from Libya (UNESCO Commission) and Bulgaria (Eco and Water oriented schools network).
Financing
The funding discussions within Sweden are ongoing at high level – we will know more details by early May.
Any proposal from UNESCO national commissions offering Coordinator training or Teacher Trainings are welcome!
How to get started – the LL&UNESCO 2009-2011 project
Registration of Schools can start now – from February 18th
Life-Link office in Uppsala Sweden is eager to know what schools from your country want to participate. We expect that the schools from the pilot project 2008 will continue and that some additional schools want to join. Please bring this information to your interested schools – great.
We prefer that each school performs its own registration. In certain countries we understand that UNESCO Commission ASPnet coordinator, or other Project coordinator will perform the registration. The LL&UNESCO Project website, the same address as before: www.life-link.org/aspnet, will give a school all necessary information for registration.
The Project website will at the same time allow for project communication with Life-Link office Sweden – Welcome! The LL&UNESCO Project 2009-2011 first action/lessons will start in October 2009 with the Culture of Care action, and with an updated Teachers Guidelines on Culture of Care.
Point of Clarification: The Life-Link program now has two parts: Basic Program and Intensive Care Project.
- Life-Link Basic Program – with a list of 50 proposed actions within the ethics of Care for Myself – Care for Others – Care for Nature. Any class/school with students age preferably 12-19 can join the Life-Link Basic Program, according to information on www.life-link.org and the Life-Link Manual information.
- Life-Link & UNESCO ASP “Intensive Care” ESD Project 2009-2011. This project builds on the successful pilot project 2007-2008 and recommendations from the concluding conference in Petra June 2008.
MARCH 2009
Water for Life action in March and around World Water Day 22 March!
Awaiting the LL&UNESCO ESD Project action to start in October, and in order to keep schools’ motivation and inspiration from the successes 2008, we propose a Water action to be performed according to the Life-Link Basic Program.
Please look at www.life-link.org and the home page campaign banner World Water Day 22 March 2009Schools that during 2008 used the first edition of Teachers Guidelines on Water for Life, and still have access to the booklet, can of course use this appreciated booklet once again, with flexibility according to your curriculum. (An updated edition will be available from late 2009)
Schools and classes must not perform any specific reporting on students assessments or teachers assessments.Dialogue-Schools activity will not be included in March 2009 Water action.
